On Thursday 22 May 2014 the League of European Research Universities (LERU) organises a Spring Reception for its EU research affairs network (EU officials and other stakeholders) in Brussels.

Old and new challenges in global health research

Keynote speaker at this event will be Professor Peter Piot.
Piot is Director of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and Professor of Global Health. He is also Chair of the European Forum for Forward Looking Activities of the European Commission. Furthermore, Professor Piot is a former Under Secretary-General of the United Nations and former Executive Director of the UN specialised agency UNAIDS. He co-discovered the Ebola virus in Zaire in 1976.

Respondent to Prof. Piot's presentation is Mr. Robert-Jan Smits, Director-General, DG Research & Innovation, European Commission.
